Hands-On History: A Maker’s Mini Camp! Ages 9-17

CREATE | CRAFT | CELEBRATE AMERICA'S 250th!

1-DAY MINI CAMP FOR OLDER STUDENTS!

June 19th!  From 10-2:00 - Our Tween/Teen Mini Camp (Ages 9-17) is the perfect art workshop for older kids who are interested in learning more about the artistic history and process of some of our traditional crafts in America while celebrating America's 250th... Using metal stamping, leather embossing, wood burning, riveting, cyanotypes, and more, we will combine them into beautiful art!

In this hands-on mixed material workshop, artists will explore leather, metal, wood, paint, fabric, and a beautiful collection of tools and materials to create projects rooted in history with a contemporary twist. Each project is inspired by traditional craft methods - branding, stamping, riveting, cyanotype printing, leatherwork, and woodburning - but reimagined in a fresh, creative way for today’s young makers.

Using a metal branding tool, kids will learn how to burn designs into wood, then add painted details around the mark to create a rustic, one-of-a-kind piece. They will also experiment with cyanotype, a historic photographic process that uses a chemical reaction with sunlight to create deep blue-and-white images, similar to the earliest photographs and the process once used to make blueprints. Their cyanotype fabric artwork will be mounted in a wooden embroidery hoop for a finished piece that they can display.

Artists will also work with metal stamping tools and hammers to create custom impressions in metal, learning how simple marks can become meaningful embellishments. They will explore how to rivet metal and leather together to create functional, handcrafted projects such as a leather hanging plant holder, a leather trinket dish, or other small treasures. Using vegetable-tanned leather, kids can also make bracelets embellished with stamped metal pieces, embossed designs, or hand-stamped patterns.

This workshop is perfect for those who love tools, textures, and projects that feel a little old-world.  Each artist will leave with a collection of handmade pieces that feel earthy, creative, and truly personal.

*The students will be challenged to think outside the box and given a lot of freedom when creating their art!  The studio will be arranged in "stations" so that if your child enjoys one project more than another, he/she can choose to work longer on that particular project and skip another if they'd prefer.  Giving freedom to their creative minds!

This mini camp is designed to feel joyful, creative, and memorable  - a perfect summer day filled with hands-on art, keepsake projects, and plenty of Free Range Studio fun.

Our immersive art experience will be held from 10-2:00. Pack a peanut-free lunch and send your tween/teen on a journey into a patriotic art experience!
