DESCRIPTION OF CLASSES & AGE RANGES:

Imaginarium Art Class!

Wednesdays (bi-weekly) | 10:00 - 11:20 AM | Ages 4 - 7
Next session begins October 8th

New!  For kids ages 4-7. Imaginarium: where art and imagination meet! In this playful class, children explore ART and creativity through stories, nature, and history woven into hands-on art projects. Each session sparks curiosity, builds confidence, and encourages little artists to see the world as their canvas.  We will introduce kids to the elements of art and without even realizing it, the kids will learn these basic components - the building blocks artists use - including line, shape, form, color, value, texture, and space.  Enjoying art and viewing it as a form of expression creates so much self confidence in kids.  They will see themselves as artistic and creative!

Each class at our studio is designed to be unique, weaving together art with history, storytelling, and occassionally a deeper look into artists  - what they created, what they believed, and how their times shaped their work in an age appropriate way. DATES: 10/8, 10/22, 11/5, 11/19, 12/3, 12/17 and a free bonus class for everyone on 1/7/26.  Session must be purchased in a block and includes 6 classes + 1 makeup/bonus class.

*A Note for Parents: We understand that Imaginarium is our youngest class, and for many children this may be their very first experience taking a class without a parent right by their side. To help with this transition, parents are welcome to remain on the property during the first sessions  - either in the upstairs space near the classroom, or in a nearby spot that is out of sight. Our goal is to gradually encourage independence, so that children can fully engage with their peers and the creative process. Over time, we hope families will work toward a comfortable “drop-off” routine, just as the other students in the studio have done. This allows all children to gain confidence while experiencing the joy of making art on their own.

Young Creators

Fridays (bi-weekly) | 10:00–11:30 AM | Ages 5–8
Next 6-week session begins September 12th

Designed especially for our youngest homeschool artists, this playful and imaginative class introduces children ages 5–8 to the wide world of art. Each session weaves together storytime, creative exploration, and hands-on artmaking as students discover how artists, materials, and ideas all "play" together.

Through guided projects, students will explore new tools and techniques, experiment with various materials, and be introduced to both famous and lesser-known artists. This class emphasizes creative confidence, joyful discovery, and the magic of making art in a supportive studio environment. Projects stretch from 2D to 3D!

Outside-the-Box Art

Fridays (weekly) | 12:30-2:30 | ages 12-16

Next 6-week session starts October 3rd

Project-Based Multimedia Art for Older Homeschool Students with an emphasis on thinking outside the box!

In this hands-on art class, older homeschool students will explore project-based learning through a variety of multimedia materials while gaining a deeper understanding of the elements of art.

During Weeks 1 and 2, students will be introduced to the main project theme and its inspiration. They'll learn about real-world designers, experiment with new materials, and complete smaller skill-building exercises that support the larger creative process.

In the following weeks, students will apply their new knowledge to develop a major project or two - combining technique, creativity, and design thinking. The focus will be on creating functional art pieces that are bold, unique, and truly jaw-dropping!

*We offer select "on-site" group art projects at co-ops, churches, and community centers on a limited basis, depending on our availability.  We can cater our projects to a theme and incorporate materials based on the interests of your group.  Minimum group size is 8, and prices vary, depending on group size and materials used.  Please email us to find out more about homeschool group events!  freerangeartclasses@gmail.com

All are welcome to attend this bonus/makeup day regardless of whether or not they missed a previous class.  The bonus class will be used to finish up any missed work and another  2D painting/drawing project will be provided as an option, too.  Due to the discount and opportunities to make up missed work at the free bonus class, no refunds will be given.  We hope you understand!

WHEN ARE HOMESCHOOL ART CLASSES OFFERED?

Afternoon classes are offered weekly on Wednesday and Friday from 12:30-2:30.  These classes can be booked by the block of 6 weekly classes. Occasionally, our classes will skip a week so that we can offer art to a group of special needs adults twice a year.

Morning classes are offered bi-weekly for younger students and are every other Wednesday 10-11:20 or Friday from 10-11:30 .  These are booked by blocks of 6 sessions. Class dates are noted in the link to register.

WHERE ARE CLASSES HELD?

Classes are held at the Carriage House Collective: 381 Brinton Lake Rd, Thornton PA 19373.  The Free Range Art studio is in the carriage house behind the main building on the property (behind the Mill Offices).  When you enter the parking lot, make a quick right down a gravel drive back to the "Carriage House".  We are located on the 2nd floor.  There is a creek, land to explore, and a nice setting for art and creativity.

CAN YOU SHOW ME SAMPLES OF PROJECTS?

Please look at samples of our classes toward the bottom of this page to get a sense of how the classes are organized and what we create!  Or, check out our social media pages to see the types of projects we do and what we study. We would also be happy to email you if you'd like to see the types of art we explore. We want the students to embrace the "process" of the art and we give guidance yet also follow their lead. This is small group instruction, so we can be very "hands-on" and therefore we limit the class size to 8 students and ideally we strive for the younger kids to have a 1 to 7 ratio of teacher per students.

HOW CAN I REGISTER MY CHILDREN?

You are already in the right place!  Registration can be done here on our website, below, and is first-come first first-served.  We ask that payment be made at the time of registration to hold your spot(s).  If you'd prefer to pay via cash or check, please email us and those can be dropped at the studio.   We are so happy that you are interested in our program!  If you have any issues registering or have questions, please email Tracy at FreeRangeArtClasses@gmail.com.
