Summer Camp Week 3 July 20-24th: Texture Lab! Art you can Feel!

Texture Lab: Art You Can Feel!

Week 3 of our immersive summer art camp is an exciting week where art, nature, and hands-on discovery come together in the most tactile way possible! Live animal visitors!

Campers will explore the world through touch - examining scales, shells, fur, feathers, bark, and other textures and then transform those discoveries into beautiful works of art!

Does your child love slime?  Slime is on the agenda!

Do they love animals?  A visitor will be bringing us a variety of animals for the kids to see up close and personal!

There's nothing better than being surrounded by inspiration!  We encourage the kids to think of all the ways they can make art with an "idea".  Brainstorming and exploring art through tons of mediums.  This will be a true exploration of textures and what happens when an artist "sees" things in the world around them that others might miss!

Throughout the week, campers will work with an exciting variety of materials including canvas, polymer clay, wool, metal, paint, gel plates, and found natural objects while including them into their art. Live animals will visit the studio, giving students the rare opportunity to observe and sketch real textures up close - sparking curiosity, conversation, and creative inspiration!  We will have a polymer clay studio: kids choose from pendants, keychains, trinket dishes, or pens... pressing textures into clay using tools and natural objects.  We will provide an introduction to metal stamping to create textured metal pieces while discussing pattern, repetition, and durability in art!

This camp encourages curiosity, experimentation, and joyful MESS-making. Campers will press, stamp, roll, sculpt, layer, and build, learning how artists use texture to add depth, interest, and meaning to their work. Every project is designed to be hands-on, process-focused, and confidence-building, resulting in art that is as fun to touch as it is to look at.

In addition to having live animals, another local/featured artist will visit this week: Farren Maille, needle-felter extraordinaire, owner of Whimsical Woollies!  Farren comes to us with an amazing needle felting project and has a track record of being the highlight of our camp!

It's not often that you have the opportunity to expose kids to real artists, live animals, and beautiful art on a gorgeous historic property where they get to swim, explore, and take it all in!

  • Deeply hands-on and sensory-rich

  • Encourages creative risk-taking and exploration

  • Exposure to a wide range of professional art materials

  • Thoughtful integration of nature, animals, and art

  • Every camper leaves with multiple finished pieces and a deeper understanding of art
