A One-Day Mini Camp Featuring Muggles the Pony!
July 16th! From 10-4:00, it's an extended mini camp with pony & cart rides!
 
A One-Day Art Camp About "Muses", Making Art, & Mini Pony Magic... Pony/cart rides, ART, pizza lunch, creek play...what a fun day!
 
What gives an artist an idea? What sparks a story, a painting, a song, or a handmade object? In this special extended-day mini camp, students will explore the idea of a muse - a person, animal, place, imaginary being, or creative force that inspires someone to write, paint, make music, or create something meaningful.
 
Our very special live animal guest, “Muggles” the cart-driving mini pony, has been a muse again and again. Muggles inspired his owner, Jamie Defazio Guiberson, to write two children’s books, and he has also inspired many creative moments here at The Free Range Art Studio!
 
During this inspiring art (1-day) camp, students will meet Muggles, talk with Jamie about how he became her inspiration, and enjoy the opportunity to take a cart ride with him.
 
During Muggles’ visit, students will have the opportunity to experience the simple magic of a pony cart ride and reflect on how moments in nature, time with animals, and hands-on experiences can spark creative ideas. We’ll talk with Jamie about how Muggles became her inspiration - her muse - and invite students to notice what captures their own curiosity and imagination.
 
Throughout the day, students will consider their own sources of inspiration. Who or what could become their muse? A horse, a favorite animal, a special place, a treasured object, a story, a character, or even a current obsession they can’t stop thinking about? These personal inspirations will help guide the art they create during the mini camp day.
 
Students will create a variety of mixed-media art projects inspired by horses, Muggles, and their own personal interests. While horse-themed options will be available, we will also offer templates and project possibilities inspired by other animals, places, and objects. When registering, families may share their child’s top three current obsessions or inspirations so we can help tailor parts of the day around what might become their muse. Our projects have been designed to be modified to meet the interests of this group of students throughout the day. They will have the flexibility to change projects and add/remove portions of the materials! Flexibility, creativity, and inspiration fueled by real-life experiences! Please send water shoes, wear, or pack clothing that can get wet and include a towel. We will have lunch on the bridge over the creek and play/explore in the creek, too.
 
Projects may include:
Watercolor abstract art with oil pastel transfer
Mixed media artwork/collage on chipboard
A mosaic art piece on a wooden heart
Framed sun print (cyanotype) of an item that inspires
A stamped metal piece to add to their 2D art or include with their mosaic!
 
This special mini camp also includes a pizza lunch, time with our unforgettable pony guest, and a cart ride!
 
Time: 10:00 AM–4:00 PM
Ages: Children must be 6 by July 31, 2026
Lunch: Pizza lunch included (please pack a snack and drink or different lunch if preferred)

Have your child spend the day making art, meeting Muggles, riding in a horse-drawn cart, playing in the creek, and finding their creative spark!
