Sunflowers in Ink: An Alcohol Ink Art Workshop!

Tuesday, September 15th | 6:30-8:30 pm

Celebrate one of nature’s most joyful flowers while exploring the vibrant, unpredictable beauty of alcohol inks!

In this beginner-friendly adult workshop, Tracy Taylor will introduce participants to alcohol inks and demonstrate how these highly pigmented colors can be encouraged to flow, blend, bloom and interact in beautiful and sometimes surprising ways.

Each participant will receive a hand-drawn sunflower design prepared with masking material, allowing you to focus on experimenting with color rather than worrying about drawing. You'll build your sunflower using layers of brilliant yellows, golds, greens and other colors of your choosing. Towards the end of the workshop comes the especially satisfying part - removing the masking to reveal the sunflower beneath and watching your finished artwork emerge.  Final touches can be made with paint markers, gel pens, or alcohol markers, too.

Along the way, we'll also explore a little of the fascinating story behind the sunflower. Native to North America, sunflowers (Helianthus annuus) were cultivated by Indigenous peoples thousands of years ago for food, medicine, dyes and other practical uses. Over time, they've also come to symbolize warmth, happiness, loyalty and optimism - perhaps because of their unmistakable resemblance to the sun itself.

No alcohol ink experience - or drawing experience - is necessary. This workshop is about playing with color, learning a new medium, and enjoying the creative process in the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere of the Free Range Art Studio.

Come spend a Tuesday evening with us and hold onto a little bit of summer. 🌻

Food/drink is welcome! (If you have a food allergy and this would affect your ability to attend, please email us to let us know: freerangeartclasses@gmail.com)

Dress in clothing that can handle a little mess - just in case!  We provide gloves and aprons, but inks can be unpredictable and messy.
