What is Clay Handbuilding?

Clay handbuilding is an ancient pottery technique that involves forming clay using only your hands and a few simple tools. The three main techniques - coiling, slab building, and pinch pottery - open up a world of exciting possibilities. Whether you’re a beginner or just looking to get your hands dirty in a fun, creative way, these workshops are for you!

During this workshop:

✅ You’ll hand-build your piece with guidance from Terri

✅ Choose your glaze colors from a variety of beautiful finishes

✅ Your piece will dry, then be bisque fired, glazed, and fired again

✅ Ready for pickup at the Free Range Art Studio in 3 weeks!

Price includes: materials, instruction, glazing, and both firings!

Doors open at 9:45 am, and this workshop will last approximately 2 hours, depending on your experience level and the intricacy of the project. Feel free to bring a snack.  Please see our specific location details in the emailed receipt, or below.

  • Our Location;

    The Free Range Art Studio is a little bit of a hidden gem.  People love our location.  It is close in proximity to some of the area's best dining and shopping, and yet still off the beaten path!

    Our address is 381 Brinton Lake Road, Thornton  PA.  We are situated behind the Offices at the Mill (a large historic red/white Mill building with a working water wheel inside).

    We are on the 2nd floor or the Carriage House (The Carriage House Collective) on the property.  The Carriage House is the smaller building behind the Mill and can be found by driving back on the little gravel lane back to our red/white building.  At night, look for the little white party lights!  Parking is allowed on the grass.
