Homeschool Art: Ages 9-17 Special Offerings! Wed. or Fri. Afternoon 12:30-2:30
Exploring Art: Spring series of homeschool art classes! Wed or Fri 12:30-2:30...
This Spring, kids ages 9-17 can explore art together while working with various mediums. We've researched and discovered new artists, techniques, and fantastic art variations for your kids!
Choose a project and select either Wednesday or Friday afternoon (12:30-2:30), below. Each art class is offered on Wednesday and Friday, so you can select the day that works best for your family. We will need at least 5 students per class registered at least 5 days prior in order to run these classes. It's a great time to spread the word and invite kids who haven't attended classes with Free Range Art because they can try just 1 class if they'd like!
Working with various media is really about experimenting with what incredible things happen when your materials are applied in different ways. Over the course of a few weeks, homeschool students can explore a variety of creative classes. You can select just 1 or all 4!
Here are the offerings:
No Longer Available: Pebbles, Paints, Fluid Mediums, and Functional Art and Jewelry! Learn how to go with the flow and then turn it into inspiring art! We provide the lesson, the river rocks, the paints, and jewelry findings for the kids to make subtle, earthy paintings and also one-of-a-kind artistic keychains, necklaces, or bookmarks using river stones with holes.
4/29 & 5/1: Morse Code Name Art! Learn the history behind Morse Code and then apply it to a beautiful canvas painting in the style of Cassandra Ng. Each student will discover how a palette makes them "feel" with a little color exploration. They will each pick a color palette and create their names in Morse Code style with dots and dashes to make beautiful, symbolic paintings.
5/6 & 5/8: Jackson Pollock - inspired "Americana" painting and copper tooling to commemorate America's 250th anniversary! Using a marble and paint to create their background, the students will then create a painting of the american flag in the style of abstract expressionism. Layering a copper repousse design of either the Liberty Bell or the Statue of Liberty, the artwork will become a mixed media masterpiece and a stylized piece to commemorate our country!
5/27 & 5/29: Images, Negatives, UV Light, and Cyanotypes! Technically speaking, a cyanotype is a contact print made by exposing UV reactive chemicals to sunlight. Today, the cyanotype process is classified as a form of "alternative photography" because, like regular photography, the process uses light to capture imagery. With cyanotypes though, you don’t use a camera to capture the image, you use the thing itself, which means you are basically capturing the silhouette of the object via a contact print. We will be using a variety of subjects including stencils, negatives, nature, and found objects to make cyanotypes! We will create cyanotype prints on paper and also on fabric!
Minimum Enrollment Policy
We’ve found that kids have the most fun and get the most out of class in a group setting, so we require at least 5 participants for a class to run. This ensures an energetic experience while supporting the time and preparation our instructors put into each session. We hope you understand!
