Summer Camp Week 5, August 10-14: Crack, Pour, Reveal: Hidden Color in Nature!
Week 5, August 10-14, 2026: Crack, Pour, Reveal: Hidden Color in Nature!
This immersive art camp blends fluid art, color exploration, and natural discovery. Campers will work with a professional acrylic pour artist, discover and crack open geodes (that they "find" along the creek), create shimmering resin geode trays, explore cosmic sky flow paintings, experiment with alcohol inks and Brusho watercolor crystals, and design swirled polymer clay crystal keepsakes - resulting in a vibrant collection of artwork inspired by the hidden beauty of nature and the movement of color. This camp explores how nature creates beauty through movement, pressure, and time - exploring lava flows, mineral formations, water currents, and crystal growth. Fluid art becomes the visual language for natural forces!
Our featured artist is Taylor Cooper. Taylor, aka "Flunk" in the art world, is an abstract artist from Chester County, PA, and the founder of Flunk and Friends. Flunk and Friends is an organization already making a strong local impact. Through their Flunk and Fest charity art events, they raised nearly $8,000 for CHOP and close to 500 pounds of food for the Chester County Food Bank last year! Known for his enthusiastic, "community over competition" approach, Taylor makes art feel accessible to all. He began with fluid art and now creates mixed-media shadowbox works featuring animal-based characters inspired by real-life experiences.
Taylor will kick off week #5 with a workshop for our campers that teaches them hand's on acrylic pouring. *Acrylic paint pouring is a fluid art technique where acrylic paints, mixed with a pouring medium (like Floetrol or Liquitex Medium) and sometimes water/silicone oil, are poured onto a surface (canvas, wood) to create abstract art with unique swirls and cells. Beginners typically use a "dirty pour" (layering colors in one cup then flipping) or "flip cup" method, tilting the canvas to spread the paint and often blowing it with a straw or using blow dryers for effect, creating mesmerizing, unpredictable patterns.
Projects include:
Acrylic pour paintings inspired by geodes and stone cross-sections
Geode discoveries along the creek and cracking and sketching interior color patterns
“Crystal flow” canvases using metallics and jewel tones
Large 9" x 12" resin trays dyed with beautiful colors
- Alcohol Ink crystal & sky art
- Brusho crystal watercolors
- Swirled polymer clay crystal slices and agate slice suncatchers
It's scientific, magical, and artistic all at once - perfect for curious kids and those that don't mind getting messy when it comes to ART!
