Collected Light: Wire & Mixed Media Suncatchers for Tweens & Teens February 19th

"Collected Light" Suncatcher + Mobile Workshop for ages 10 and up!
Thursday, February 19th • 5:30 - 7:30 PM

In this workshop designed for tweens/teens, they will create something radiant that reflects their inner light!  By dying crystals in alcohol inks, bending colorful wires to create visual contrast, and also incorporating found objects: sliced geodes, vintage jewelry, metal and more, they will create their own suncatcher or mobile!

In this unique workshop, they’ll explore the art of suncatcher design using an inspiring selection of metal components, patina-finished elements, and sparkling crystals. Guided by instructor,  Tracy Taylor, students will experiment with dipping crystals into alcohol inks - watching as they transform into stunning iridescent jewels full of depth and color.

The students will bend wire, mix textures, connect pieces, and bring their vision to life as they craft a unique hanging suncatcher featuring a beautiful metal cut-work heart - or another piece - as the centerpiece:  selecting from a curated assortment of metal and crystal components, each participant will use pliers to shape connections and manipulate balance within their piece.  Individual elements  - including crystals, chains, and patina-finished metal shapes  - can be dipped into alcohol inks to achieve luminous, iridescent surfaces that catch and refract sunlight in dynamic ways.

Everyone will explore how form, balance, and visual weight work together to create a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing composition. By the end of the class, each designer will assemble their customized arrangement into a fully constructed suncatcher or mobile.  No two pieces will be alike, ensuring a personal and meaningful finished work they can hang proudly or gift to someone special.
