Pop-Up Half Day Workshop: Fish & Sea Art
June 16th 1:00-4:00 (Ages 6-13) $50
About:
Summer is here and what better time to do Gyotaku! Gyotaku (pronounced Gee-oh-tah-koo, from gyo "fish" + taku "rubbing") was originally used by Japanese fisherman. Over time this technique evolved into an art practice. In this kids' workshop we'll learn how fishermen recorded their big catch of the day in the 1800s and how it has become an art form of its own. We will be using nature printing as a method to create big, colorful, and naturalistic underwater scenes! We won't use real fish, but we will use replicas of real fish and rice paper. Inspired by artist Cyndi Lanier, we will create art with fish printing and add color, materials, and more! We will also build and decorate 1 of 2 different styles of wooden boats which might be able to float in our little creek! We will talk about their designs and try to guess if they will float! Send creek shoes or water shoes and if the weather allows, plan to check out the creek next to the Carriage House at pickup to see if your artist wants to float their boat!
