Summer Week 1: Nature-Inspired Design
June 19, 21, 22... 11:00-1:30 (Ages 8-15) $120
About:
Nature-inspired projects using metal stamping, dried and pressed flowers, branches, real feather quills, inks, paints and more! Students will learn metal stamping to create nature-inspired designs and make their own jewelry or name plate for a frame with their creations and also press dried ferns and flowers behind glass for a keychain, bracelet, bookmark, or necklace. Next, the students will move into a number of options depending on their interests: stamping designs on fabric using materials from nature, creating a small polymer clay trinket/ring dish with pressed leaves, drawing an illustration inspired by Michelle East using real feather quills as their drawing tool with handmade ink and finally finishing their art with a wax seal of a raven... just to name a few projects! It's FUN but also allows the kids to see that art - and especially nature - can be used in real world applications. This is considered "natural applied design". Applied design is typically art that overlaps craft, visual art, and product design and generally includes jewelry and metalwork, wood, glass, clay, and textiles to develop functional objects.
