Summer Week 4: Copper & Wood WISH Boxes

Wishes and dreams really DO come true! Our project for week #4 is to make a hand-tooled copper lidded "wish" box. The students will first sketch their design for the box and we will talk about the concepts of balance, design, symmetry, and how to simplify a design into one that can be replicated in copper. We will upcycle old wooden boxes with unique character into new, beautiful boxes to hold our visions and dreams....or maybe just a little loose change, depending on what each person WISHES! We will learn about copper repousse, tooling, and chasing and one option is to add leather handles or decorative leather bands by learning how to hammer and rivet the leather to the box. Wood burning on the wood or leather can also be used and this will truly become an heirloom piece to cherish. This is a 2-day camp and runs from 3-6 pm.
